Weight Loss > Choosing a Weight Loss Plan

It can be confusing trying to figure out which weight loss plan will work best for you, especially when you're being inundated with so much "quick fix" dieting hype. Pre-packaged foods, liquid diets, low fat, low carb-no carb... and the list goes on. Do these diets work for the long term? Are they legitimate? Are they healthy?

At MinDshape we give you answers, not more questions. There are no gimmicks, just proven methods that will enable you to lose weight and keep it off. But don't take our word for it, we encourage you to evaluate us and here are the tools to do it.

Below you will find answers to many of the questions anyone thinking about a diet plan is recommended to ask by the National Institutes of Health's guide to choosing a responsible and safe weight loss program, and the Federal Trade Commission's consumer guide to weight loss programs. We'd love for you to contact us to ask us any other questions that may be on your mind.

What does the weight-loss program consist of? What's involved in following the program?
At MinDshape there isn't one set plan because everyone's needs and desires are different. Everyone we serve gets a customized program that will enable them to succeed.   What you will get from MinDshape includes:

  • Working with a nutritionist to create a realistic eating plan
  • Metabolic testing to personalize your weight loss plan
  • Personalized objectives for weight and wellness that addresses your food preferences, health issues and your exercise, lifestyle and cultural needs
  • Encouragement, increased self-awareness and monitoring
  • One-on-one, group and family nutritional counseling and support where you will learn to make positive and healthy behavior changes and stay motivated as you work toward your goals
  • Skills needed to manage high-risk situations
  • Techniques to maintain weight loss and prevent relapse
  • Recommendations for fitness programs that will be enjoyable and keep you motivated
Who supervises the program and what type of training, experience, education, and certifications do they have?

Dr. Gary Spivack, M.D., Medical Director
Dr. Spivack has more than three decades of experience in psychoanalytic treatment, child and adolescent psychiatry, behavior modification, family therapy, group therapy and the use of medications. Dr. Spivack founded MinDshape to give people life-long solutions to their weight loss hurdles. "Most weight loss centers give a quick fix, which ultimately sabotages a person's metabolism. At MinDshape we change and improve behaviors with results that last a lifetime."

Deborah Jeffery, RD, LD, Director of Nutrition Services
Debbie Jeffery has more than twenty years of clinical nutrition experience as a registered dietitian in acute care, long term and outpatient settings. She's worked extensively with adults and children, including those with weight-related illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension.

Is the program safe?
The program is not only safe, but the changes that you will be making will improve your health, not risk it further. The professional staff at MinDshape is very well educated in weight loss, nutritional counseling and the health complications surrounding being overweight or eating poorly. We will work with your personal physician, trainer, spouse and family, as you wish, to make sure that you are not only successful in the program, but safe.

What is the total cost of the program?
Working with MinDshape is one of the best investments you can make in yourself and your future. Costs vary as each program is customized to the individual. Our services are very affordable, especially when compared to the cost of medical treatments that may be avoided:

  • One 20mg Lipitor™ per day - $116 per month, $1,392 per year, $34,800 for 25 years
  • Three blood sugar test strips per day - $90 per month, $1,084 per year, $27,100 for 25 years
  • Gastric bypass surgery - $20,000+
  • Heart bypass surgery - $75,000+

What cost can you put on your good health? Nothing, of course, it's priceless.

Losing your excess weight and learning how to control your medical problems through good nutrition and exercise—often without drugs—is an investment that will quickly pay off in your improved health and quality of life.

A sample starting plan would include:

  • A one-on-one meeting with one of our dietitians to discuss your individual goals and create a customized diet plan and menus.
  • An easy, non-invasive medical test to find your metabolic rate (how many calories you use at rest). This test is often covered by insurance.
  • Weekly individual, family or group meetings to review your progress, make necessary changes to your program, and answer questions about any health, lifestyle or diet concerns you have encountered.

  • Please contact us for pricing on the services that you could use.

MinDshape vs Prepared plans & fad diets

Brenda, 43, had gained a few pounds a year over the years. She's lost weight in the past with prepared-food programs but the weight came back each time she went back to fixing her own meals. Now she sees menopause coming on and she knows that if she doesn't overcome this now it will be doubly hard later. On the advice of a friend she met with our registered dietitian and instantly felt a weight lift and a bit of her old energy return. It wasn't too late for Brenda to lose weight, and she didn't have to deprive herself of what she enjoyed in order to do it.
If you're like most people, you can relate to "the weight came off and went right back on" story or the lure of fad diets, like Adkins®, South Beach®, or the Hollywood Diet® that promise big results with little effort.

Healthy eating is not about restriction. Cutting out entire food groups like carbohydrates or fats just isn't practical, and people tend to binge when they bring that food group back.

But why not Jenny Craig® or NutriSystem®? Prepared meals don't work well for the long-term because you are only learning how to restrict your meals to a very limited pool of options. You don't get the practice you will need in making good food choices and preparing healthy meals for yourself.

We understand how tempting "quick fix" diet plans can be, and how they backfire. Our staff has the knowledge and experience to help you understand what's truly healthy and not just a fad.

Please contact us to find out what we can do to help you avoid the fads and be successful in attaining your weight lost goals.
